Foil container sizes
Foil takeaway containers are sold by number rather than millilitres. We stock:
- No.1: standard duty, for sides, rice and small portions.
- No.2: standard duty or heavy duty, a popular everyday size for curries and rice dishes.
- No.6a: standard duty or heavy duty, for larger mains.
- No.9 square: 1.5 inch shallow or 2 inch, for traybakes, lasagne and family portions.
- No.12 round (7 inch): No.12, for pies, crumbles and sharing dishes.
- No.14 round (9 inch): No.14, for larger pies and sharing dishes.
Standard or heavy duty foil?
Standard duty containers are the cost-effective everyday choice. Heavy duty containers use thicker foil, so they’re more rigid when filled and less likely to bend when carried, which is useful for heavier, saucier dishes and busy delivery services.
Which lid fits my foil container?
Lids are sold separately and are matched by number. Our poly coated board lids sit on the container and are crimped down to seal in heat and stop sauces leaking:
- No.1: standard lid.
- No.2: standard, heavy duty or extra heavy duty.
- No.6a: standard, heavy duty or extra heavy duty.
- No.9: heavy square lid.
- No.12: 7 inch round heavy duty lid.
- No.14: 9 inch round heavy duty lid.
Heavier lids are stiffer and hold their shape better on full containers and in stacked delivery bags.
Gastronome foil trays for catering
For buffets, events and hot holding, gastronome trays fit standard catering equipment. Choose half deep trays with half lids, or full deep trays with full lids.
Foil platters
Foil platters are ideal for sandwiches, finger food and party platters: 14 inch small, 17 inch medium and 22 inch large.

Are lids included? No, foil containers and lids are sold separately and matched by number.
Can foil containers go in the microwave? We don’t recommend putting foil in a microwave. Transfer food to a microwave-safe dish to reheat, or use one of our microwave-safe plastic containers.
Can foil be recycled? Clean aluminium foil is widely recyclable. Scrape off food first and check your local waste guidance, or use the Recycle Now locator.
