Greaseproof paper bags are one of the hardest-working items in a bakery. They keep buttery pastries from leaving grease marks on customers’ hands, let bread breathe so the crust stays crisp, and give a clean, professional finish at the counter. Choosing the right sizes saves waste and speeds up service.
This guide covers the greaseproof and paper bags we stock for bakeries, what each one suits, and how to put together a practical range.
Why greaseproof bags suit bakery goods
Greaseproof paper is treated so that oils and butter don’t soak straight through. That matters for croissants, Danish pastries, sausage rolls and doughnuts, where an ordinary paper bag quickly turns translucent and messy. Unlike a plastic bag, paper also lets steam escape, so warm bakes don’t sweat and go soft.
Our greaseproof bag range
Our greaseproof paper bags come in plain and “Thank You” printed versions. Most are supplied in cases of 1,000 (10 packs of 100).
Small plain bags: 5″ x 5″ to 6″ x 6″
The 5″ x 5″, 6″ x 4″, 6″ x 5″ and 6″ x 6″ plain bags suit single items: cookies, small pastries, doughnuts and brownies. These are usually the fastest-moving sizes on a bakery counter.
Medium “Thank You” bags: 7″ x 7″ to 8.5″ x 8.5″
The 7″ x 7″, 7″ x 7.75″ and 8.5″ x 8.5″ bags fit croissants, pain au chocolat, sausage rolls and larger pastries. The printed “Thank You” design adds a friendly finish without the cost of custom printing.
Large bags: 10″ x 10″ and 12″ x 12″
The 10″ x 10″ and 12″ x 12″ bags take multiple pastries, slices of cake or a sandwich and a bake together. The 12″ x 12″ comes in cases of 500.
Baguette bags
Our 14″ x 6″ x 4″ baguette bag is gusseted, so it takes the depth of a baguette, bloomer or long loaf without tearing.
When to use other paper bags
Not every bake needs greaseproof paper. For bread rolls, dry cakes and retail items, our white paper bags (from 5″ x 5″ up to 12″ x 10″) are a cost-effective choice. If you want customers to see what they’re buying, film front bags have a clear window and work well for pastries on display and grab-and-go shelves.
Choosing sizes for your counter
- Measure your best sellers. Lay your top five items on a table and check which bag each fits without squashing.
- Allow room for the hand. Staff need space to slide items in quickly, so size up slightly rather than forcing a tight fit.
- Keep the range small. Three or four sizes usually cover a bakery: one small, one medium, one large and a baguette bag.
- Stock by speed. Small bags run out fastest, so keep an extra case of those.
Storage and handling
Store paper bags somewhere dry and away from ovens and steam, which can make them curl or stick. Keep open packs near the counter and spare cases in a cool storeroom.
